Description
Madagascar Copal comes from the island of Madagascar and is a subfossil resin. It comes from the species Hymenaea verrucosa. As with all fossil resin it is not soluble in any normal solvents or oils and must be “run” by heating until the resin melts and loses between 10 and 25 percent of its weight before it becomes usable to make a varnish. See our technical bulletin Procedure for running a hard (fossil) copal.
