The main supply of this yellow resin is from Thailand where the trees are tapped and the resin collected in hollow bamboos. When the resin has solidified, the bamboos are cracked open and pipe Gamboge is obtained. The alcohol soluble resin is used to color spirit varnishes and as a ground color for violins.
